Forensic & Diagnostic Reporting

Forensic engineering involves investigating and diagnosing issues related to structural failures or damage. Our forensic engineering team specialises in identifying the root causes of structural problems, such as cracks, foundation movement, water damage, or material failures, and providing expert solutions for repairs and mitigation.

  • Causation reports may be required to determine the underlying causes, extent of damage, and options to remediate (where possible) various types of building issues, including:

    • Building movement and cracking

    • Structural failure or collapse

    • Water ingress issues

    • Building compliance issues

    • Material behaviour issues

    • Distinction between long-term and event related damage (ie. storm, fire, escape of water, flood, inundation, impact, earthquake, etc.)

  • Expert witness reports are formal reports prepared by an independent professional with significant experience and specialist technical knowledge. These reports are often prepared for dispute resolution and/or legal proceedings, and the expert witness may be required to attend court hearings to discuss the findings of their report.

  • A dilapidation survey, also known as a condition report, is a detailed photographic record of a building’s existing condition. This is usually undertaken prior to demolition and construction works to document pre-existing damage, and prevent future disputes between owners, contractors, and/or neighbours. Dilapidation surveys may also be undertaken as part of a routine maintenance inspection.

  • We can undertake structural assessment reports which include recommendations for the following:

    • Make safe works

    • Structural condition assessment (buildings and public infrastructure)

    • Maintenance works

    • Demolition

    • Compliance upgrades

    • Strengthening and repairs

    • Structural alterations and additions

    • Change of use/loading

  • We can provide detailed structural remediation repair specifications and/or structural drawings for the following type of damage:

    • Storm damage

    • Vehicle impact

    • Flood or inundation

    • Water damage

    • Fire damage

    • Earthquake damage

    • Steel corrosion

    • Concrete spalling

    • Timber rot

    • Structural failure or collapse

    • Building movement and cracking

  • We provide annual maintenance inspection reports for commercial buildings and other structures to ensure the structure, facades, plumbing and roofing is in good condition and functioning correctly. The report will include any recommendations for maintenance work to be undertaken.

  • Structural integrity is one of the most critical aspects of any property, and hidden issues can lead to costly repairs down the line.

Standard pre-purchase building inspection reports often recommend for a structural engineer to investigate possible structural issues which have been identified.

We can provide an in-depth investigation into these potential issues to determine their severity, and the extent of any structural rectification works required.
